New Zealand Peruvian with a Star on Their Back

The New Zealand Peruvian are our unique pedigree longhair guinea pig breed that was also created in 1976 in Wellington, also helped the start the kiwi cavy fancy.

This unique and rare breed has long, flowing locks of thick hair.  The New Zealand Peruvian is beautiful with their long hair falling from one of the two centre back rosettes with their hair brushed into a beautiful full circle from the most dominating rosette.  The circle on their back is the "star" and is really gorgeous.  They differ from the English Peruvian who has fine hair and a parting line.

Our Mission for New Zealand Peruvian

The primary focus on this breed is to keep New Zealand Peruvian from becoming another lost unique breed, like the Bonnet.  We came back to this breed over 10 years ago to help save them from extinction.  Back when we first had them, we never would have thought they would become rare.  Secondly, we will exhibit them when we can.

The Big Achievement

During The Nationwide Cavy Show in 2022, Tintola Ace our New Zealand Peruvian achieved 'Reserve in Show'.  A monumental occasion for the New Zealand Peruvian breed as they were very rare then and have not been on the show table for many years prior.  This was the first comeback story.  Of course it was at an Independent Cavy Clubs show.  It was the first big milestone for the breed in recent years, and we are proud it involved us.

New Zealand Peruvian twins

Tintola Ace (achieved Reserve in Show) and his brother Tintola Samson.  Not the best "show off" photo but it's a favourite of mine.

New Zealand Peruvian Rare Breed Baby Guinea Pig

Tintola Prince - I took this photo soon after weaning.  Very strong rosette and was a lovely New Zealand Peruvian.  The photo at the top of the page is him two months later.
